If you don’t like oatmeal, then I don’t trust you.
Or maybe you just haven’t had them made properly, in which case, follow the steps below to understand how great a bowl of oats can be!
Oatmeal 3 Ways
Ingredients (2 Servings)
Oatmeal Base
1 Cup Rolled Oats
2 Cups Milk (Any Fat % or Alternative Milk) or Water
Pinch of Salt
Maple-Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar (Light or Dark)
2 Tbsp. Maple Syrup
1/2 Tsp. Ground Cinnamon
Peanut Butter & Honey
2-3 Tbsp. Peanut Butter (Smooth or Crunchy)
2 Tbsp. Honey
1-2 Tsp. Granulated Sugar (Optional)
1/2 Tsp. Ground Cinnamon (Optional)
Sliced Bananas or Berries for topping (Optional)
Apples & Cinnamon (pictured above)
3-4 Tbsp. Brown Sugar (Light or Dark)
1 Small-to-Medium Apple, diced
1 Tsp. Lemon Juice
1-2 Tsp. Granulated Sugar
1 Tsp. Ground Cinnamon, divided
Steps
Oatmeal Base:
1. Heat milk or water in a pot over medium to medium-high heat until simmering, stirring occasionally to avoid a film forming at the top if using milk. (Look for a full ring of bubbles around the edge.)
2. Add pinch of salt and stir.
3. Add oats and reduce the heat slightly, stir to evenly distribute into the milk or water.
4. Cook oats for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened. Once most of the milk or water is absorbed by the oats, add your flavoring of choice (steps listed below).
Maple-Brown Sugar:
1. Once milk or water is almost fully absorbed by the oats, add brown sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon, reduce the heat to low, and stir to fully combine.
2. Remove from heat and serve.
3. Enjoy!
Peanut Butter & Honey:
1. Once milk or water is almost fully absorbed by the oats, add peanut butter and honey, reduce the heat to low, and stir to fully combine. (You can also add a bit of cinnamon if you’d like.)
2. If you would like your oats a little bit sweeter, add a teaspoon or two of granulated sugar and stir to fully combine.
3. Remove from heat and serve. I recommend topping your bowl with sliced bananas.
4. Enjoy!
Apples & Cinnamon:
1. Before you start cooking your oats, combine your diced apple, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and a half-teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl. Toss together to evenly combine the ingredients, then allow to sit for at least 10 minutes, (I recommend waiting 20-30 minutes to get the apples to a nice level of soft and sweet).
2. Once the oats have almost fully absorbed the milk or water, add the brown sugar and a half-teaspoon of cinnamon, reduce the heat to low, and stir to fully combine.
3. Remove from heat then fold in the apples, evenly distribute throughout the oatmeal, then serve.
4. Enjoy!
